Joney´s top three – assignements and feedback
maj 20, 2008
From the ongoing tourism-education, an assignement from the coursemodul ” Sellingtechniques ”:
” Give 3 examples, from selling services or products from the tourismindustry that in your opinion has a good quality or a good purpose or makes the buyer happier and satisfied. Motivate your choices: ”
Jonas answered, chose to study in English, but Swedish is an alternative:
1. Eco tourism
And the social benefits of eco tourism are good, money will go to the people who need it, it will foster a intercultural understandning and create needed jobs around the world. The only problem for the moment are the pollutions from the flights, but that´s a passing problem.
2. Internet
Well, it´s not really a service from the tourism bussines, but what have been changing the toursim more ? And it´s still going fast forward. During 2008/2009, when Lonely Planet are publishing all their content at their website for free.
But the most inspiring thing are that we have not seen anything yet when it comes to travel and Internet. The GPS system will soon come to the mobile phones and then the tourist can log on and get the information about the area they are in for the moment with the possibility to book a room or a table, see what others have commented and much more.
3. Overland travel
Instead of taking a flight, you can go overland, it started in the 1950s with several british companies and have since then spread around the world with a bus or a train for the same pollution as a five hour air flight this will be the thing for the enviornmetalist.
You can go by train in most parts of the world today. From Cape Town to Nairobi, from Helsinki to Bejing or from Vancover to Miami. If we can find a way to make the ticket cheaper, this is something for the future.
Answer from the tutor / MKFC:
To develope your professional skills as a student you can use your statements and wishes to create a questionnaire and learn to evaluate whether tourism really is ecotourism or not. I think your answer raised following questions. You reached at least 6 -7 of those. Creating tourism is to have a specified position and a visible focus so you can evaluate what is done.
- Did you minimize the number of flights while traveling ?
- Did you visit local restaurants ?
- Did you use local hotels ?
- The local people, where they included producing tourismservices ?
– Did they use locally produced products ?
- Did you develope intercultural understanding ?
- Did you use internet arranging the trip to reduce the use of offices thus reducing the use of buildingmaterial, energy, heating, paper, and saving time ?
- How much use of mobiles eg. GPS existed in guiding purposes ?
